When it comes to Vishal Bhardwaj’s work , expectations are rocket high whether it’s the characterization, music, story, screenplay or the Direction. But when the marketing demons forces the marketing over creativity the resultant child  this time can be named as ‘Matru ki Bijlee ka Mandola’

Matru ki Bijlee ka Mandola has a story which is one of the most relevant topics in the era of urbanization, it has one of the most talented actors like Pankaj Kapoor and Shabana Aazmi and very beautiful music score still it lacks the pace, that fire which you can feel in Maqbool, Omkara or Kaminey. Reasons could be Marketing gimmicks, the desire for 100 cr club which forces creative directors to compromise on quality. For eg Imran Khan despite his one of the best performances till date is not the apt choice for a Haryanvi Jat role and Anushka Sharma played the same tomboy kinda role who is ready to make out with the lead pair in every movie. She is on the verge of losing her career if she will not come out the same ‘Meenakumari Complex’ role. She seems to be good at showing her skin, shaking her b#tts and smooching her co-star, I hardly see a natural expression on her face. Even, expect Pankaj ji , Shabana Ji and Gulabo- The Pink Buffalo characterization of other main characters seems incomplete.

Many Years back Sooraj Barjatya gave the similar experience with his film ‘Main Prem ki Diwani Hoon’ and Now despite ‘Matru ki bijlee ka Mandola’ - a Vishal Bhardwaj's venture, taste like a half baked fish. The role of Imran Khan as Mao could have been very interesting with lots of layers but it lacks serious characterization and  the main lead seems to be practicing with his Haryanvi accent all the time. Second since Pankaj Kapoor is an alcoholic in the movie, most of his dialogue in Haryanvi in his drunken mood went misunderstood (Like Paincho Paincho) or not understood at all. Third the presence of African dance troops didn’t very relevant to the Haryanvi Mix. Fourth and Very important, ‘Matru ki bijlee ka Mandola’ was promoted as a romantic comedy but definitely it neither has romance nor comedy but it’s a political satire and it should have marketed in the same manner.

So What good comes in ‘Matru ki bijlee ka Mandola’? Answer I’m listing Below

-Pankaj Kapoor and Shabana Azmi’s Superb Performance. Pankaj is the main hero of the movie and he is the main pillar of the movie. Shabana ji is excellent as a corrupt minister.
-Well Gulabo as the pink buffalo makes an excellent debut and much better as a supporting cast than the popular faces.
- Background score and music by Vishal Bhardwaj.

I believe if the director has attempted to keep the things more original without any marketing tadka, the beauty of a supremely good script would come out more lush greener than the alcoholic marketing demons who are vomiting cash for the last three days of the weekend.

‘Jab Tak Hai Jaan’ ironically celebrates the 50th anniversary of legendary film maker Yash Chopra in Indian cinema who left us even without seeing the screening of the film on silver screen. But will he cherish the project if he got the chance to view it in the Heavens? The answer may not be likable to many of us since we live in a country who is blindfold passionate about cricket and cinema and honor their representatives to the position of God and the disagreement may lead into street wars, office wars or Home wars .To cut the story short ‘Jab Tak Hai Jaan’ highly disappoints as Yash Ji venture and seems to be directed along with  Aditya Chopra without any logical plot of the story, screenplay is totally missing and music doesn’t meet the expectation of Yash ji Films from any angle.

Samar Anand , a Punjabi munda who is an army officer- a street singer-a delivery boy-a waiter… well film makers failed to justify his profession; saw Meera Thappar, a high class poor (in love) Indian girl living in London while she was visiting church for her prayers who didn’t want to marry an Indian Boy and aka SRK got the chance to grab the opportunity. He followed her to the party and tried to play with the lady’s hidden emotions, then dance, Kiss, accident and Interval. Akira Rai, a Delhilite and a documentary maker who wear a super-mini shorts  even in Ladakh and who believes in the concept of ‘easy to make out and easy to break up’ found the personal diary of Samar and got to know about his love story. Now strangely our dilli ki billi works in London in Discovery Channel and requested Samar to visit London to authenticate Her documentary  where again he met with an accident, than memory loss followed by patch up with Meera , memory gain.aur audience ki Saans mein Saans ka the end.

If one starts to describe the loopholes of the screenplay and script than this movie lost relevance at very moment. In a scene when Katrina proposes  SRK to Kiss he said Meera “you are crossing the Line” despite the fact just few scenes back He proposed and Kissed her with the comment “Tumne Mana nahi kiya”(You didn’t said No). Ladies are roaming in mini shorts in London and Ladakh. Anushka as a documentary maker gets an easy entry in the army and living and sleeping between army people without any lady officer support. Does Indian army is so easy to approach... May be that’s why we are getting terrorist troubles everyday.

As far as direction is concerned I’m not ready to accept this as a Yashji Venture its easily seems to be directed by Aditya along with Yash Ji and Marketing YashJi name to make bucks on the name of his last venture. Yash ji health conditions were not good since Veer Jara time (released in 2004) and that movie was also promoted as the last movie of Yash Chopra Ji. It’s totally unfair to make Yashji worked in extreme climatic conditions despite of his health. What people seem busy is to enjoy fight between Ajay Devgan &  SRK and which Fan club will win and ignoring the fact that someone has lost his life because of exertion of work in his 80s..Also Yashi Ji heroines usually seen in  sarees in snow clad mountains or under rains or farms  whether its chandini, Dil to Pagal hai,Darr,Veer Jara but again this important thing is missing from this film despite there was ample scope of the same.

Performances, Mr Amitabh Bacchan tweeted SRK performance as best after Swedes; well either he has not watched Swedes or ‘Jab tak hai Jaan’ completely, the very first scene of his unconvincing Punjabi accent puts the audience down. About Katrina, baby besides looking beautiful you need to act also. Anushka too was very average in her role much inspired by her own Band Baaja Barat style.

About Music, A.R.Rehman music was a relief despite the fact Challa song opening track is a direct lift from Eagle Eye Cherry’s Save Tonight song. Thou Choreography by Vaibhavi Merchant is worth mentioning for pre Ishq Shava Sequence. But lyrics by Gulzar are disappointing. Overall Melody of the songs felt forced. Ishq Shava - does anyone knows the real meaning of the same? Gulzar sahab aap hi bata do.

Cinematography -The most pleasing part of the movie and Anil Mehta deserves the full score for the same.

Chalte Chalte , ere yaar  picture bekaar despite  JTHJ has our pyara Khan…
